Active or Passive Residency in Andorra: How to Choose

Active residency is designed for those planning to work or run a business in Andorra — as an employee or self-employed through a company with a minimum €3,000 capital. It requires a stay of more than 183 days a year and, for the self-employed, genuine control of the company and an actual office. Passive residency (“without gainful activity”), by contrast, suits rentiers, retirees, and owners of remote businesses with foreign income: it requires an investment from €1,000,000 (or €400,000 via the Housing Fund), does not allow working in Andorra, and requires only 90 days of stay per year. Which route to choose depends on whether you plan to genuinely live and work in Andorra or use it as a tax base while keeping your business abroad. Either way, citizenship is only available after 20 years of continuous residence.
